- At the beginning of the 21st century, the Maori began to revive the Matariki spirit because they tried to revive the remembrance of the celebration.
- For some strange reason, in 2020, the government announced that Matariki was going to be a public holiday.
- The revival of Matariki also played a part in increasing the popularity of the traditional Maori kites pakau
